How to Approach AI-Generated Images

Generative tools make realistic pictures easier — that changes how you should verify offers, not how you should panic.

What changed for consumers?

AI image tools can create product photos, lifestyle scenes and even realistic faces that never existed as a physical shoot. Scammers may use that to make thin listings look fuller or more trustworthy.

At the same time, many legitimate sellers use AI-assisted graphics. An image that looks synthetic is not automatically a scam — and a photo that looks natural is not automatically safe.

The useful question is rarely “Was this made by AI?” alone. It is “Does this offer still need independent verification before I pay or share data?”

How scammers misuse generative images

  • They invent product photos for goods they do not hold.
  • They pad marketplace galleries with polished scenes that hide a weak seller profile.
  • They create fake “proof” screenshots or documents that look official at a glance.
  • They combine realistic images with urgent messages that push you to pay outside the platform.
  • They reuse the same visual style across many fake shops to look established.

What still protects you

Trust decisions still rest on the same foundations: who you pay, which website you open, and whether the seller can be held to account.

  • Refusal to show a real-time photo with a handwritten note or serial detail

What to do before you trust an image

  • Pause — realistic pictures are not proof of stock, authenticity or delivery.
